In December 2011, I signed with Conlan Press to publish my epic manuscript: "These Are the Voyages: An Episode-By-Episode History of the Original Star Trek." Conlan specializes in science fiction, fantasy, and non-fiction devoted to the two genres.
The publisher has decided my manuscript is too damn big to be just one book, yet (or so he tells me with a great deal of sincerity) it is too good to be trimmed back. The feeling is, when it comes to what the fans of the original classic Star Trek want, more is better - more memos, more quotes, more information regarding production schedules, production problems, production nightmares, letters from the network, threats from the studio, all the blood, sweat and tears that went into making this series, and the Nielsen ratings, too. And, of course, more pictures.
The decision: publish three volumes. Book 1, covering the creation of the series, the selling of the series, the making of the two pilots, and the rest of the 29 episodes from Season One, is slated for summer 2012. Book 2, devoted to the 26 episodes of Season Two and the fan support that demanded NBC renew for a third year, is scheduled for a fall 2012 release. Book 3, devoted to the third season and the fight to retain quality despite a reduced budget and a horrific time slot (Fridays at 10 p.m.), will appear before Christmas. That's the plan, I am told.
My apologies for all the delays. I've just been having too much fun writing and rewriting this. Some who know me say I've been deep into outer space. Others - my family mostly - say I've been deep out of my mind. We'll find out which it is when Book 1 arrives.

It's not often that we authors get a "three book deal."
I'm sure that's how we should interpret it.
