Introduction to the "100 Words Or Less" Writers Challenge

The "100 Words Or Less" Writers Challenge is a fun, creative way to learn something about the writing craft.  Each month a new challenge will present an opportunity for you to venture into a genre or form of writing that (perhaps) you've never explored before.  "Learning is doing," someone once said  (or maybe it was "Doing is learning," I forget).

Not only will you learn something about the craft, you'll undoubtedly learn something about yourself.  "Hey, I never would have thought it, but I can do this!" you'll find yourself saying. Or "Wow! I'm better at this than I thought!"

That's the first part of the challenge: it's a challenge to push yourself into new worlds of writing, new styles.

The second challenge is to limit your word count to 100 words.

We'll post a short introduction and link to each month's writing challenge on the "home" page of our Weh site. Simply click on the "home" tab in the navigation bar at the top of this page, then scroll down the page to find it. The "Click Here" link will take you to the challenge page.

Read the challenge, submit your entry as a "comment," and then click on "Add Comment."

The monthly "100 Words Or Less" Writers Challenge began April 7, 2012. As long as member involvement and enthusiasm continues, so shall we.

Be inventive and be creative. Think outside the box.  Most of all, have fun!

- Emily

Profile Information

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have loved writing ever since I was a child. To me, words have always been a passport to new worlds and adventures. I am very happy to be in the company of so many other writers and I hope that I can share in their knowledge and wisdom.
What are your writing interests (formats, genres)? Go wild, if you want - you don't have to restrict yourself to just one
I enjoy writing across all formats and genres. To me, everything is a fun challenge to see what I'm capable of writing. I most enjoy screenwriting and non-fiction.
Are you published or produced (yet)?
Yes, I wrote a "how-to" book for new parents a few years ago. I have been produced as both a screenwriter and scriptwriter. Both efforts and their results are worthy of funny screenplay on their own.
So we can have some idea of our group demographics, what city do you live in?
Los Angeles
Again, for our group demographics, what age group are you in?
30s
What features or incentives are you looking for from a good writers group. It's important that you know while we may not be able to fulfill all your expectations. we're gonna try!
I want to share writing experiences with other writers and learn from their successes (and failures). I would like to belong to a writing group that leads me to challenge and improve and my writing skills. Most of all, I want to belong to a writing group that tells me writing can be as much fun aS it is work!

Y'know how at the end of a book, on the end-paper flop-over of the book's dust jacket, there's always a photo of the studious, smiling author? And beneath that photo is a hundred words or less describing the author's literary background and achievements?  You know: The back of the book thing that looks like this and starts with the author's name and picture:…

Hey Jersey Shore;

I most definitely am glad that I am not back East.....brrr.....I probably would be sitting by the radiator with a carafe of coffee and a good mystery book.  Thanks so much Emily for the upbeat welcome!  I will be at the meeting this Saturday, I need to start putting names to faces and, yours will be among the first.  Thanks.
