OLD SCARY HOUSE OVERLOOKING A MOTEL

Norman looks towards the window. In the darkness you can barely make out a silhouette of person in a rocking chair.

NORMAN

Yes mother.

There is a long pause.

NORMAN

But mother.

A short pause.

NORMAN

Yes mother Ivan is very grateful for having won the contest. All he mentioned is that there is no "t" in his last name, it's Jackovich.

A long pause.

Norman

I know, no one should never question you. He just... OK, OK mother. Yes, I know what I have to do.

Norman looks over at the table as the clouds break slightly allowing the moons light to reflect off the large kitchen knife.

Thanks and congratulations to all those who entered our August "100 Words Or Less" Writing Challenge! The entries were wonderful and inspiring.

Hi all! Just wanted to share that I've updated my website at www.christineconradt.com to include a list of resources for writers (conferences, contests, festivals, film markets, workshops, etc.).  It's under 'Other Cool Stuff' and my hopes is that it will be a great ongoing resource for writers of all levels to really get out there and network, learn, and make themselves seen!

The results of the May AWG "100 Words or Less" Writing Challenge are in!

First, congratulations to all members who took the time and challenged their creative minds to make contributions to this competition!

The Challenge judges each selected and listed their favorites from over two dozen entries based on creativity and execution.  They then compared results to find the stories which appeared on more than one list.  Here are the finalists, in the order of the judge's rating system:

1.  "The Twinkie Thief" by Sue Osborn

2.  "Too Much Too Soon" by Amber Wilson

3.  "Local Custom" by Gerald Ahol

4.  "You Didn't Know?" by Marc Cushman

5.  "Sure ... Wait! ... What?" by Brian Dalton

6.  "Do What You're Told" by John Venegas

7.  "Slick-Tongued Devil" by Emily Wright

Honorable mention goes to "Don't Think" by Karin Madson, which also was highly rated.

The top three favorites, by member's reactions at the meeting were:

1. "You Didn't Know?" by Marc Cushman

2. "Sure ... Wait! ... What?" by Brian Dalton

3. "Local Custom" by Gerald Ahol

Congratulations to our winners.  Now, show us you're not one-hit wonders and enter the June "100 Words or Less" Writing Challenge (details at your friendly neighborhood AWG website).
