AWG Let's Make A Movie Contest
It's back. The AWG is about to make its third short-subject movie, and you can be part of the fun and the rewards.
Our past participants from the two previous goup sponsored shorts have credits on imdb.com acknowledging their contributions. Now it's your turn. You can be credited in the categories of writing, producing, directing, acting, and technical production.
PHASE 1: A killer title. Bring your ideas for the title (limit three per member) to the March General Membership Meeting. Entries will be shared with the group and audience reaction will determine the winner. The challenge is to come up with a title that will perk the attention of anyone who hears it, making them want to know more about this movie. The winner of this phase of the contest will receive a screen credit for “premise by.”
PHASE 2: Come up with a logline to go with the title. The challenge is to find a story springboard that suits the title and hooks whoever hears or reads it to want to watch the movie. The winner will receive a “co-story by” screen credit. Deadline is April's GMM.
PHASE 3: Write a two-page story outline to expand on the winning logline. The winner of this phase will receive the other half of the “co-story by” screen credit. Deadline is May's GMM.
PHASE 4: Write a 20 page script based on the story outline. The winner of this contest will receive a “written by” or “co-written by” screen credit. All runner-ups in this phase of the contest will be allowed to do a rewrite on the script. If the changes they make are accepted, they will receive an appropriate credit acknowledging their contributions, i.e., Story Editor, Script Consultant, or Additional Dialogue. Deadline is June's GMM.
PHASE 5: Pick our Producers. Members will be invited to submit their professional resumes for the positions of Producer, Co-producer, and Associate Producer. Deadline is July's GMM.
PHASE 6: Pick our Director. Members will be invited to submit demo reels of their work to compete for the positions of Director and Assistant Director. Deadline is the August GMM.
PHASE 7: Casting Up. Members will be invited to audition for the various roles in the movie. If suitable actors are not found within the group for all parts, then auditions will be opened to non-members to insure we get the best performers possible for this project. Dealine is the September GMM.
PHASE 8: Crewing Up. Members will be invites to apply for the various crew positions. If suitable candidates are not found from within the group for the various jobs, then outside talent will be brought in to assure this be a quality production. Deadline is also the September GMM.
PHASE 9: We make our movie in October, financed by the AWG and/or GRANTS obtained due to our status as a non-profit organization.
PHASE 10: The movie we make will be entered into film festivals and screened locally before the end of 2012, thereby qualifying it for inclusion on imdb.com, where the names of all participants will be listed.
With the above guideline, a dozen or more members of the AWG can be involved. Get your first credit or your most recent credit on imdb.com by being part of the AWG Let’s Make A Movie Contest!
